Modern Window Grille Inserts Provide Old Multi-pane Window Character

Window grille inserts are commonly found today in all different styles of windows. Window grilles are an excellent window treatment accent piece and complement window curtains and other window treatments. Window grille inserts are designed to mimic older window styles where multiple window lights were separated by wood or metal muntin strips. Muntin strips were a necessity in older times when large panes of windows were hard to come by.
Fortunately window grille inserts can replicate the look of the past, without the hassles of having to clean small individual glass window panes. |
Most windows today come manufactured to accept window grille inserts. If you look closely at a window frame, you will most likely see small circles or dimples for the window grille inserts.
When buying window grille inserts, it is important to understand the terminology. Window grille inserts are commonly referred to as 12 over 12, or 6 over 6, for example, when ordering them for double hung windows. What this means is that each window grille insert divides a window glass into 12 or 6 sections, respectively.
In addition, since there are two window grille inserts required for each double hung window (top and bottom glass panes), it is referred to as 12 over 12, or 6 over 6. Note, however, that in some cases window treatment solutions only use window grille inserts in the top glass pane.
Besides square and rectangular window grille inserts, there are also diamond and radius shaped ones to choose from. In addition, there are uniquely styled window grille inserts that you can order. Also, some window grille inserts come encased in their own frame structure, while others do not. |
So if you are looking at sprucing up your windows, consider window grille inserts as a window treatment. They provide a touch of history and elegance to a window, while at the same time preserving the ability to easily clean them.
