How to Restore Vinyl Siding so it’s Looking Like New
By Mark J. Donovan

Vinyl siding has many positive attributes. It’s inexpensive to install, it doesn’t split and check like wood siding, requires no painting, and overall maintenance is minimal. This said, it is apt to fading over time thus giving the exterior of the house a washed out look. Replacing vinyl siding that has faded, however, is not necessary in most cases. You can often renew vinyl siding by simply giving it a good washing with a mild cleaning solution.
To renew vinyl siding, start by covering any shrubs around the home with tarps to protect them from getting damaged while cleaning and renewing the vinyl siding. |
Once the area around the home has been fully prepared, rinse down the siding with a pressure washer. Make sure to use the lowest pressure nozzle setting and hold the nozzle a couple of feet away from the siding to ensure you do not damage it. Also, work your way from the base of the house to the roof. In addition, always point the pressure washer in a downwards direction when spraying the vinyl siding. Otherwise, water can get caught up underneath the siding which could lead to mold and mildew growth.
After applying the soapy mixture, use a long handle bristle brush to really work and scrub the solution into the vinyl siding.
Finally, rinse the section of vinyl house siding off with clean water using either a simple garden hose, or again your pressure washer.
Repeat this process over the entire house. When done your vinyl siding should look renewed and sparkling.
