Learn How to Properly Install a Towel Ring on a Wall Using Wall Anchors

By Mark J. Donovan

In this video Mark Donovan of HomeAdditionPlus.com shows how to properly attach a towel ring to a wall.

Towel rings are frequently installed in bathrooms to hold hand towels. Consequently they get a lot of use. If they are not installed improperly the towel ring can rip off the wall.

To attach a towel ring properly to a wall it is best to have the screws and anchor bracket attach to the drywall and into wall studs. Unfortunately that is not always possible.

When you want to attach a towel ring to a wall where there are no wall studs then you must use plastic wall anchors. The plastic wall anchors help create additional friction with the drywall, and as a result, better hold the towel ring bracket screws in place.

To install plastic wall anchors into the drywall, first drill small pilot holes into the desired drywall locations that have a diameter approximately 1/16 to 1/8th of an inch narrower than the towel ring bracket screw(s) diameter.

Then tap the plastic wall anchors into the pilot holes with a hammer. Make sure the plastic wall anchors are tapped in flush with the surface of the wall.

Now attach the towel ring bracket and screws to the plastic wall anchors using a screw driver. Make sure not to over-tighten the screws as you fasten them to the plastic wall anchors.

Next attach the towel ring to the towel ring bracket and tighten up the set screw using either a small screw driver or Allen wrench. And with that, you’ve properly attached a towel ring to the wall.
