Inexpensive Bathroom Wall Covering Ideas that Can Make a Bathroom Shine

By Mark J. Donovan

There are endless bathroom wall covering ideas to choose from. Bathroom wall coverings should be part of every bathroom remodeling project. However applying a new bathroom wall covering doesn’t have to be just limited to when you are remodeling your bathroom. Painting a bathroom, or installing a wallpaper border in a bathroom can be done virtually anytime.

Painting Bathroom Walls

One of the least expensive and easiest bathroom wall covering ideas you can consider is paint. There are an infinite number of colors, styles and textures to choose from, and even the most expensive brands won’t break your bank account for simply painting a bathroom.

The only important consideration to keep in mind, when selecting paint for a bathroom wall covering, is to choose one that is mildew resistant. So make sure you talk to your paint supplier first, to find out what paints are the most appropriate for a bathroom.

Ceramic Tile

Ceramic tile is another excellent bathroom wall covering idea. Again there are a multitude of ceramic tile options to choose from. The only issue with ceramic tile is that it needs to be maintained regularly. Grout lines and in some cases the tiles themselves need to be sealed to prevent moisture from penetrating them. Moisture is a breeding ground for mold and mildew and once it works its way into grout lines it can be extremely difficult to remove. In addition to sealing ceramic tile, it is important to wipe them down regularly after every shower, to again eliminate any condensation build-up on the tiles.

Mirrors

The addition of a large mirror is another excellent bathroom wall covering idea. Mirrors play a big role in bathroom designs, particularly in contemporary bathroom designs. Mirrors can also make a bathroom feel larger than it actually is.

Wallpapers and Wallpaper Borders

Wallpaper is another alternative for bathrooms, particularly small powder rooms or in large bathrooms that are well ventilated. Small or medium sized bathrooms with heavily used showers are less ideal for wallpaper as the wallpaper can begin to peal due to the high moisture levels. Another choice would be to go with a wallpaper border. Wallpaper border is a simple bathroom wall covering that is easy an inexpensive to install. Besides moisture concerns the only other downside with wallpaper is that prints tend to go out of style every 5-10 years. As a result, even if the wallpaper functionally holds up, you still may need to change it periodically. An alternative to installing a wallpaper border is to apply stenciling to the top of the bathroom walls.

Bathroom Window Treatments

Window treatments are another major bathroom wall covering idea to consider. Again, there are a plethora of options to choose from when it comes to window treatments, however make sure you select a solution that will provide the bathroom with both privacy and natural light.

Bathroom Wall Covering Accessories

Finally, consider paintings and accessories for bathroom wall coverings. There are a variety of wall hanging accessories that can be installed in a bathroom to accent walls and to complement paints and wallpaper.
