Create a Flexible and Waterproof seal around showers and tubs by applying a mold and mildew resistant Acrylic Latex Caulk with Silicone
By Mark J. Donovan
Mark Donovan, of HomeAdditionPlus.com shows off a few tips on caulking a shower stall.
When it comes to applying new caulk in a shower stall it is important to first remove all of the old dried out caulk. Silicone caulk adheres well to just about anything with the exception of old silicone caulk.
When caulking a shower stall, I find it best to use masking tape. I like to apply a strip of masking tape just above and below the joint or seam that I want to caulk.
This way after applying the caulk and running my finger along the bead of it, I can simply remove the masking tape to obtain a clean caulk joint.
In regards to the type of caulk to use in a shower or bathtub area, I typically use an Acrylic Latex Caulk with silicone from DAP. This type of caulk creates a flexible waterproof seal that dries fast. It is also extremely durable, and is mold and mildew resistant. This type of caulk is also perfect for sealing around exterior doors and windows as it is both waterproof and paintable. Disclosure Policy Statement.
