If either exhaust furnace <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/basements\/how-to-hide-basement-ductwork\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">ductwork pipe<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0had separated from its respective chimney flue hole, a fire could have ensued in the lower level of my home.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">To resolve the problem I first pushed each exhaust ductwork pipe into its respective <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/heating\/chimney-flue-liner-installation-types\/\">chimney flue liner hole<\/a><\/span><\/strong><\/span> at least one inch.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I then applied a thick layer of furnace cement around each exhaust pipe where they connected into the chimney.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">To apply the furnace cement I first used a wet sponge to clean the furnace ductwork and the surrounding chimney mortar. I then used a putty knife to apply the furnace cement to the furnace exhaust ductwork and chimney. I made sure to apply a good and thick one inch diameter bead of furnace cement around both the ductwork and chimney.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"50%\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">I also inspected the rest of the furnace ductwork for missing screws. Surprisingly I found a few missing screws in the furnace ductwork.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">With both furnaces, the screws to the ductwork were missing where the ductwork pipe directly connected to the furnaces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Apparently the furnace service technician removed the screws and ductwork pipes when cleaning the furnace but failed to reattach the ductwork pipes using the screws.<\/span><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"1%\"><\/td>\n<td style=\"text-align: center;\" width=\"49%\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B002JFSVGE\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325&amp;creativeASIN=B002JFSVGE&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=wwwhomeadditi-20&amp;linkId=91ee5e6281ed5f4ceea302ccd7aa1223\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/\/ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/widgets\/q?_encoding=UTF8&amp;MarketPlace=US&amp;ASIN=B002JFSVGE&amp;ServiceVersion=20070822&amp;ID=AsinImage&amp;WS=1&amp;Format=_SL250_&amp;tag=wwwhomeadditi-20\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;\" src=\"\/\/ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com\/e\/ir?t=wwwhomeadditi-20&amp;l=am2&amp;o=1&amp;a=B002JFSVGE\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" border=\"0\" \/><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"50%\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Again, this was another major fire threat averted.
