Unlevel floors are typically the result of a home\u2019s foundation settling and\/or sill rot caused by water or insect damage. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are a number of ways to level the floor of an old house, depending upon how severe the floor settling is, and what the source of the problem is.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If the house floor is un-level as a result of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/framing\/sill-beam-repair-and-replacement\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">wood sill rot<\/span> <\/strong><\/a><\/span>caused by water or insect damage, or the floor beams are damaged in anyway, then they need to be replaced.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">To replace wood sill or beams the house needs to be temporarily jacked up off of its foundation. Once the house is jacked up the old sills and\/or beams can be removed and replaced with new ones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/framing\/what-are-floor-joists\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">floor joists<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> are sagging they too can cause floors to be unlevel. By <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/framing\/sistering-floor-joists\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">sistering new floor joists<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> to the existing ones the floor can be stiffened up to prevent any additional sagging, and in some cases eliminate minor floor deflections.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"50%\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">If the concrete or stone foundation has settled and\/or crumbled then again the house needs to be temporarily jacked up so that the foundation can be repaired.
