It also helps to protect the drywall corners from becoming damaged. Corner bead is installed on all outside corners, and in some cases inside corners, after the drywall has all been hung.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are several different types of corner bead available on the market, however the most common type is L shaped and made out of a perforated, light gauged, galvanized steel.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The metal is galvanized to prevent the corner bead from rusting and bleeding through the joint compound and paint.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Newer to the market is plastic, or PVC, based corner bead. It has a couple of advantages. First, unlike galvanized steel, it will never rust. Galvanized steel, if cracked or damaged can rust. Second, PVC corner bead is flexible and thus can more readily form to uneven corners due to warped lumber.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In regards to the types of corner bead there are a number of choices to choose from.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"50%\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Standard L-shaped corner bead<\/strong> &#8211; As I\u2019ve already mentioned this corner bead is the most common type. It is made from either galvanized steel or PVC and forms a 90o angle and measures 1-1\/4\u201d x 1-1\/4\u201d.
