A Romex cable ripper is about the simplest and least expensive tool you can have in your tool box, but it is invaluable when roughing in electrical wiring. It also is a much safer alternative then trimming back Romex sheathing with a utility knife.<\/p>\n<table style=\"width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"text-align: left;\" width=\"50%\">To strip back the plastic sheathing around the Romex cable simply slide the end of the cable through the throat end of the Romex cable ripper and out the back end of it to the desired length. Then, squeezing down on the throat end of the ripper with your finger and thumb, pull the cable with your other hand out towards the throat end of the ripper.<\/p>\n<p>After you\u2019ve pulled the Romex cable out of the cable ripper, inspect the end of the Romex cable. You\u2019ll notice a clean cut along the wide side of the cable sheathing. Use your fingers to peel back the sheathing to expose the individual wires inside the Romex cable.
