Not to mention its saves money by not having to buy joist hangers.<\/span><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Hanging Joists without Hangers &#8211; The Simple\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-size: 18.6667px;\"><b>Alternative<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/decks\/deck-flashing-ledger-boards\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">ledger board strip<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span>\u00a0is simply a strip of lumber nailed along the bottom of the ledger board that attaches to the side of the house and to the deck front band\/header.\u00a0The ledger strip is typically about 1.5\u201d to 2\u201d in height and 1.5\u201d in width.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The deck floor joists rest on the ledger board strips and are attached by toe nailing the floor joists into the ledger board and front band\/header. It connects the home to the deck. Consequently it must be fastened solidly to the home. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Typically the ledger board consists of a 2&#215;8 or 2&#215;10 pressure treated piece of lumber that is fastened to the house sheathing and through the front band\/header. Thus use an <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/homeadditionplus.com\/dev\/roofing\/ice-and-water-shield-roofing-underlayment\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\">ice and water shield<\/span><\/strong><\/a><\/span> on the house sheathing prior to attaching the ledger board. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Also, make sure to use deck ledger flashing that attaches to the house sheathing and goes over the top edge of the ledger board.
