Why Rain Gutters Prevent Home Water Damage Video

How to Protect Your Home from Roof Rain Water Run-Off by using Gutters

By Mark J. Donovan

In this video Mark Donovan of HomeAdditionPlus.com shows examples of home water damage caused by the lack of use of rain gutters. He also shows an example of how rain gutters help prevent water from entering a home’s basement.

The use of rain gutters can prevent major water damage to your home. Rain shedding of the roof can work its way down the exterior of your home’s foundation walls and into the basement or crawl space.

Basement flooding and mold and mildew growth are major concerns when this happens. Consequently it’s a smart idea to install gutters on roof eaves, particularly if the soil grade slopes towards your home’s foundation walls.

It’s also a wise idea to install rain gutters over garage door openings. Rain water shedding of the roof over a garage door can cause the garage door to rot or rust as the water bounces up off of the asphalt or concrete driveway. Water can also easily work its way under the garage door when rain gutters are not used, even if a garage door seal is installed at the base of the garage. Water entering the garage can lead to water damage of items stored in the garage.

So if your home has basement or crawl space water problems, or you observe water entering your garage during rain storms, install rain gutters. You’ll protect your home and its contents from water damage.
