Don’t forget the Bathroom Accessories when Remodeling Your Bathroom
By Mark J. Donovan

When planning a bathroom remodeling project many of us forget to think about the bathroom accessories. Instead we focus mainly on the new bathtub with water jets, the new toilet, or the new vanity and countertop. Besides these, albeit, important bathroom necessities, there are many other bathroom accessories that should also be given consideration when remodeling your bathroom.
Bathroom accessories include such items as lighting, towel racks, toilet paper racks, flooring, shower doors or shower curtains, curtains, paint color choices, heat lamps, bathroom ceiling fans and even towel styles and colors. |
Bathroom Remodeling – Lighting
One of the more important bathroom accessories is bathroom lighting. People prefer well lit bathrooms with flexible lighting options. For example, when putting on make up, it is important to have lighting above the mirrors to fully illuminate your face. In addition, a bathroom needs general lighting to illuminate the entire bathroom.
There are many bathroom lighting fixtures to choose from. There are overhead can lights, sconces, overhead ceiling lights, wall strip lights, and combo fan/ceiling lights. In addition, there are numerous light bulb options to choose from, including incandescent and halogen light bulbs. Incandescent bulbs are great for providing wide general light. Halogen light bulbs are excellent for providing spot/work space lighting.
Also, if you want lighting to provide warmth for you, you will want to consider ceiling heat lamps. You will need to talk to your electrician and your carpenter about this option while designing your bathroom, as heat lamps require special attention for functional and safety reasons. |
Bathroom Remodeling – Shower Curtains and Doors
Another major bathroom accessory to consider is shower enclosure doors or curtains. Shower curtains are simple and low cost, but there are many ways to make them look elegant and accent your bathroom. Glass shower doors, on the other hand, are very expensive. However glass doors can really add that “wow” factor to a bathroom.
Bathroom Remodeling – Curtain and Paint Colors
Curtain and paint color selections are other bathroom accessories that can really make your new remodeled bathroom shine. It is usually best to choose bright colors that complement the colors of your toilet fixtures and vanity/countertop. The trick is to provide solutions that enable your bathroom to maintain brightness while still offering privacy.
Bathroom Remodeling – Bathroom Flooring
Bathroom flooring is another great bathroom accessory that we frequently simplify when remodeling a bathroom. Just replace the vinyl is the standard thought. However ceramic tile can really add glamour to your bathroom without blowing your remodeling budget. Even certain wood floor products work well in bathrooms. Look at all your bathroom flooring options before settling on vinyl. You may be surprised at what is out there for choices. A bathroom remodeling project is a great investment as most of us spend a considerable amount of time in them. |

Consequently when redesigning your bathroom, spend as much time thinking about the small bathroom accessories as you do the big ticket items. Spending time on these small items will ensure that you get the maximum return on your investment in your new bathroom.
