The Fall Season is upon us!!
|
 |
Well the kids are
back in school and the days are beginning to cool off. At least in
northern New England, this summer was quite cool and very rainy. However
this didn’t slow down my home improvement projects around the house.
|
Also, due to the
frequent rainy days, I was able to spend some significant time on adding new
home repair and home improvement content to HomeAdditionPlus.com.
In this month’s
newsletter I have highlighted several new articles that I think many of you
will find helpful, as they are fairly common home improvement projects. I
have also included a new video on
how to install
carpet trim. However the few new articles and video
highlighted only represent the tip of the iceberg. Make sure to visit are
What’s New
page to see the complete list of new content on HomeAdditionPlus.com.
With the Fall season
now upon us it is also a time to think about preparing your garden for
winter. My article on
Winterizing
your Garden will provide you with some basic tips to
ensure a bumper crop next summer.
Finally if you have a
leaky outdoor faucet, I have an article and a video that discuss how to
repair and/or install a new frost free outdoor faucet / sillcock.
If you have specific
home improvement questions feel free to visit the
Ask
HomeAdditionPlus forum, where you can share your
questions, and get answers from our community of homeowners and contractors.
As
always, if you have any specific home improvement questions or would like to
see articles on certain subjects send me an email at
contact@homeadditionplus.com.
Again, good luck with
your home improvement projects.

Installing Texture-111 In Garage
|
 |
If your
garage walls are sheetrocked chances are they are scuffed with various
marks. In some cases, there may even be a few holes in the drywall from
accidentally banging the walls with items such as a sit down lawnmower.
|
Ok, I admit
it; there is a metal bar that extends out beyond my lawnmower that has
occasionally seen the backside of my garage drywall.
To eliminate
the damaged look of a sheetrocked garage, I recently installed texture 111
on the lower half of the walls.

How to Install a Frost Free Outdoor Faucet
|
 |
If you live in a
cold climate area, and have older outdoor faucets, it is important to
make sure you turn the line stop valves off during the cold months. The
line stop valves enable the water to flow to your outdoor faucets and
usually sit a few inches back inside your home. |
With these
valves turned off you can then turn on the outdoor faucets and allow them to
drain and remain open during the winter months.
An
alternative to older outdoor faucet models is the frost free outdoor faucet
or sillcock.
A frost free
sillcock is designed such that the shut off valve sits 8-12” back inside the
sillcock pipe. As a result, the valve sits inside the warmth of the home and
prevents the outdoor faucet / sillcock from freezing during winter months.
